Dr. Schmidt attended Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry with a D.D.S. degree in 1988. He earned his certificate in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 1991 from Denver General Hospital in Denver, Colorado.

Dr. Schmidt joined the private practice of OMSA in 1991. He has had extensive training and experience in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Schmidt has lectured on dental implants throughout the United States, and has served on the Scientific Committee for International Implant Studies. He is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantology, an active member of the Academy of Osseointegration, and an Associate Fellow of the American College of Oral Implantology. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Wisconsin Dental Association, Waukesha County Dental Society, Jefferson County Dental Society and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
